When I first brought him on for a junior accounting role, I knew there would be a learning curve — especially with U.S. accounting standards and working in QuickBooks Online. And yes, there were mistakes: ❌ Entered journal entries without matching them to the correct bank or credit card accounts ❌ Misclassified personal expenses as business-related ❌ Didn’t fully grasp the impact of cash vs. accrual reporting ❌ Missed out on using bank rules and recurring templates — causing extra manual work ❌ Initial chart of accounts mapping was all over the place But here’s the flip side — he owned every mistake without excuses and genuinely wanted to improve. I’d much rather have someone who learns fast than someone who pretends to know it all. Today, he: ✅ Reconciles accounts with confidence ✅ Understands U.S. entity structures and accounting standards ✅ Is proactive in cleaning up and automating QBO processes ✅ Is even training another intern under him now Not perfect — but definitely a strong asset in the making. I’m glad I gave him a chance.
